- Building Data Repository
Client
An unregulated subsidiary of an energy company that serves more than one million customers in electric and natural gas markets in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Challenges

As a result of the deregulated energy market structure and operating regulations, the company was dependent upon external sources, primarily the regulated utilities, for the bulk of its customer operations information. Information such as customer usage, billing amounts, payments, energy profiles, even who their customers were, was ultimately determined by the utility.

The company needed an Account Data Repository to gain control and utilization of their data to enable day-to-day operations and to provide business intelligence/decision support on an on-going basis.
Strategies
Solutions

The company selected Sengen to design, implement and operate the Energy Retailer Customer Operational Data Repository.

Sengen designed repository and its corresponding transformation and data load procedures provided two complete and distinct views of the customer information. Specifically, a Retailer Customer View and a Distribution Company Specific Account View of the customer information were provided.

Sengen's Business Process Integration infrastructure provided the required information communication to other systems and organizations while Sengen's Reporting Engine generated business intelligence information.
Results
The company gained control of its data. By employing the Sengen solution for maintaining the utility-centric view of each account and simultaneously creating a cross utility, customer view, the company improved the quality and consistency of its customer operations, thus a higher customer satisfaction level was achieved.

Additionally, the company realized a lower Energy Supply cost by being able to access and view customers with similar usage characteristics across multiple utilities.
