Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
- Creating an Online Platform Solution to Connect the Partners of Lastacts.org
Client
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) was established as a national philanthropy in 1972 and today it is the largest US foundation devoted to improving the health and health care of all Americans. Last Acts is a coalition founded by RWJF that is dedicated to the care of people in the "last acts" of life.
Challenges
RWJF needed to reduce business costs and time by enabling its Last Acts Web site to link a network of partner organizations through a common operating platform that is easily usable by all parties.
Strategies

Build a web solution to enhance Lastacts.org so that organization and client administrators from around the country can manage their respective sub-domains of information, without endangering the overall site data, and without requiring assistance from the Last Acts programming and maintenance team.

Provide any other enhancements and ongoing maintenance requested by RWJF during the engagement.

Solutions

Integrated a search engine that allows for easier navigation of the site as well as the topics and services of Last Acts' partners.

Built an online resource that allows users to access the Last Acts directory and purchase materials and products.

Provided the site with scalability, enabling it to accommodate future partners and enhancements.

Recoded and optimized the site's content and performance, with minimal impact on the working site.

Moved the site to a faster set of servers for improved performance.
Results

Built a working site with dynamic content, which supports over 1,000 users per day.

Ease of use and scalability of the site has allowed Last Acts to grow from a 100 organization partner network to over 600, including the American Cancer Society and the National Academy of Sciences, without any shortfall in performance.
